Frequently Asked Questions

What is Swim School?

Where is Franklin Swim School located?

Franklin Swim School operates out of two locations. Franklin Community Middle School and Franklin Community High School. Please check our locations page for more information about our facilities.

During the winter, our lessons are held at Franklin Community High School. Please enter through door 11 and have a seat on the blue bleachers closest to the diving boards.

In the Summer, we use both the middle school and the high school.

How much does a lesson cost?

Our Learn to Swim Lessons range from $12 per lesson for our group lessons to $15-$20 per lesson for private instruction depending on the experience of the instructor.

For our competitive lessons, these range from $45-$60 depending on which package is selected from the non-team member and whether underwater video review is included or not.

All lessons are paid for in advance via the swim school website.

What will my child need to attend Swim School?

Students should bring a swim suit, towel and goggles as the minimum equipment needed. Additionally, some students prefer to swim in swim shirts or swim caps. These are completely optional and at the preference of the student.

Franklin Swim School does not recommend swim shirts though due to the added weight and mobility restrictions these can cause for younger students.

For students with longer hair, we ask that they put their hair up in a ponytail or a bun prior to the lesson to prevent it from getting in their eyes or mouth while swimming. For this reason and to protect their hair from the chemicals in the pool, some students prefer to wear swim caps.

How many lessons will my child need?

Each child is different in their level of confidence and comfort level in the water. Many students begin back floating by themselves within 6-8 lessons and taking strokes shortly after that. From there it is about building endurance and proper fundamentals with breathing to be able to swim 25 yards unassisted which can take another 6-8 lessons. These are just general guidelines however and each child will be met where they are and will progress at their own pace by their instructor.

Do we offer lessons year round?

Yes, we offer lessons year-round. We will take a 2 week break at the begining of August and 1 week at the end of March. This lets us give our instructors a week off and lines up with the competitive scheudle.

How old do you have to be to take lessons?

Our swim instructors can teach 3-12 years old. Our professional coaches can teach 3 -100 years old!

Something came up and I can't make my lesson, can I reschedule?

Once your lessons are booked, each student's lesson time has been secured in our schedule and is not offered to anyone else. Due to this and our effort to teach as many individuals to swim as possible, we require a 24-hour written notice for cancellations to the Franklin Swim School Director. Upon receiving this notice, the Franklin Swim School Director will work with you to reschedule the lesson. No refunds will be provided, only rescheduled lessons. If there is less than 24 hours notice, the lesson will be considered “lost,” and no makeup lesson will be provided.
